HISTORY

1952. 8. 1. The Academy started under the name of National Safety Academy.
1953. 4. 1. Admitted first students at Kurihama Base.
1954. 7. 1. Renamed as National Defense Academy.
1955. 4. 1. Moved to Obaradai Campus.
1962. 4. 1. Established Postgraduate Course in Science and Engineering.
1974. 4. 1. Social Science Courses started.
1989. 4. 1. Science and Engineering Departments were reorganized into 14 new Departments.
1990. 4. 1. Japanese language education for foreign students started.
1992. 4. 4. Admitted first female cadets.
1992. Bachelor's and Master's degrees were conferred to the graduates
of both Undergraduate Course and Postgraduate Course.
1997. 4. 1. Graduate School of Security Studies started.
2000. 4. 1. Undegraduate courses were reorganized into 6 Schools and 21 Departments
(3 Social Sciencies, 11 Sciences and Engineerings, and 7 Educations).
