Information about the Department

1.Educational philosophy

In addition to providing students with knowledge of mechanical systems engineering, the Department of Mechanical Systems Engineering also helps foster an independent frame of mind with regard to engineering and technology as a quality that is required for the Self-Defense Forces (SDF) officials of the future, in order to develop human resources who are capable of resolving issues by taking a broad overview, bringing together their knowledge of all types of systems based on their professional education. The Department also instructs applicants in knowledge of the educational domain relating to ships and ocean engineering, and develops their ability to apply these areas of expertise.

2.Educational concept

Aiming to make the above philosophy of education reality, the Department helps candidates acquire basic knowledge of mechanical systems engineering including mechanics, control, materials, machining, measurement and ship engineering, while also instructing candidates to the latest theories and applications relating to mechanical systems. In addition to this, the Department provides education aimed at producing human resources equipped with the thinking skills enabling them to resolve problems by bringing together all their areas of knowledge, while remaining mindful of the impact of technology on society and the environment.
To fulfil the educational concept of the Department of Mechanical Systems Engineering, students study areas such as the following:

  1. 1.Four areas of dynamics (thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, material mechanics and machine dynamics)
  2. 2.Basic electronics and control engineering
  3. 3.Mechanical system materials, measurement technology and machine operation methods
  4. 4.Analysis and measurement using computers

At the same time, we provide students with opportunities to gconfirm their knowledge for themselvesh by coming into contact with the actual mechanisms in question through machining operations and experiments, and to gincrease their practical application abilitiesh through training exercises. Students also have the chance to experience gcreativity trainingh in which they have the chance to come up with their own systems for resolving issues and problems as part of experiments.

Students can also choose additional areas of study from a range of options according to their personal preferences, including:

  1. 5.Basic principles and construction of gas engines and gas turbines etc.
  2. 6.Systems and control instruments using fluids
  3. 7.Cutting-edge robotics and mechatronics
  4. 8.Advanced materials; creation methods, precision machining and machinery elements for advanced materials
  5. 9.Oceanographic structure and mechanics/structure of ships

Design Drawing, studied over a four-year period, helps students to develop the ability to gbring togetherh all the knowledge that they have acquired to date. For graduation research work, small groups of students are assigned to an instructor, where they will grapple with the latest research topics, learn methods for resolving multiple technical problems and develop the ability to give presentations summarizing the outcomes of their research. Through special lectures , students learn the latest knowledge and information for equipment development and the Technical Research and Development Institute at the Ministry of Defense.
