Fatigue testing machine

  • A ship is forced to be subjected to repetitively acting loads in waves. The repetitive action occasionally leads to serious structural damage, even though the magnitude of wave loads is not so big. This breakage is called fatigue breakdown. We can experimentally investigate the strength of structural material of a ship using the fatigue testing machine.

  • Tensile test are carried out using tensile specimen made of steel in the Mechanical Systems Experiment in 3rd year. The yield point, elongation at that, proof strength and drawing rate are measured in that experiment. The measurement of stress distribution and stress concentration will be also experienced in tensile test of the steel plate with a hole. Let's click the picture  and look in the experiment!
